Singer
First you notice the voice. It's a worldly voice. A pop
voice. 1f it were the 1960's, Cathy might have been the lead
singer of a girl group. In one review, the rocket magazine
took notice of her "girlish, yet rich soprano."
Songwriter
Then you notice the words. She's a songwriter with a
wide girth. Her topics range from asterally projecting in
the song, "First Communion" to the irony of almost
becoming "The Butcher's Wife." James Bush of the Seattle
Weekly wrote, "her songs about women's lives (including
her own)demonstrates a startling musical and lyrical
range."
Personality
Then you notice the personality. Her dad might have
put it best. "Cathy has more stage presence than the gals
on the lawrence welk show." Melissa rawlins of the austin
cronicle wrote, "her cabaret-style blues-cum pop brings to
mind lyle lovett's quirkiness.....you won't want to miss this
woman's witty musical circus act."
Perfomance
Cathy has appeared on the MTV unplugged stage in
Sydney, Australia; SXSW in Austin, Texas; NXNW in Portland,
Oregon; as well as numerous festivals in the Pacific
Northwest (including Bumbershoot and Folklife) She has
also played live on public radio. Most recently, Cathy was
selected as a finalist for the Lillith fair talent search.
Discography
Her first solo cd, "Putting Words In My Mouth," (c 1996
Boshgok Music -ascap) produced by Wayne Horvitz (and
featuring work by Robin Holcomb and Julie Wolf) is a
testament to Cathy's future as a singer/ songwriter "a
most diverse and complex musical excursion" - Chris Lunn,
victory review. Erica Jorgensen of the Seattle Weekly
noted "Croce has dedicated this compilation of songs-all
about women's lives, from self-actualizing travels to
sunken souffles and unhinged marraiges - to her
grandmother, who would say to her in broken english,
"have good time.">Sure sounds like Croce wants listeners to
do this as well...."
