Swerve (2001)

    With each new release by Annie Gallup I'm left just in astonishment at her talent. I think, oh this is it, she can never top this, but then a new release and bam, she's got me shaking my head. Well, what's up? To begin with, She is the most interesting storyteller I've heard. Combine that with a very unique, sexy, talky, country, twangy, beautiful voice, tasteful arrangements and super guitar playing, I guess it adds up. I met her once at a house concert and was totally infatuated and mesmerized by her style, her delivery and her magnetic aura that totally engulfed me. She had just released her first CD and I realized most of the songs she played at the house concert were not on the CD. It became evident to me, that this woman has a lot of songs in her, and she has been gushing them forwards ever since…yes.

    I just listened to this CD today and try to figure out why I'm so gone for this thing. I really can't write about it, it's impossible to convey its essence thru words, at least for me. I thought about the first song, "Money" and the lyrics " When you told me, honey, you'd love me forever. Was your money on the end of the world?" That floored me, but you need all the elements to really get it, that is, you need to hear it.

    From the beginning, her song writing has been the key and that has never changed, and never has she shinned so brightly as she has on this album. I love every cut and will listen many times and probably memorize all the lyrics. Good thing the lyrics are included, and I know I'm hooked when I grab that lyric sheet. In another universe, one that appreciated talent, and considered money as paper, Annie would be the brightest and sharpest of all Spears. Sorry, sometimes it just gets to you.

    Steady Steady Yes (1999)

    Annie Gallup, "Steady Steady Yes", my favorite storyteller, someone could write a book about the characters that permeate her work. She even wrote a story about a character from my neighborhood " John Llewellin". I talked to her about it, and she confessed it was a fabrication, but what power, what imagination, I was sure he lived down the street. It's kind of funny, but when I half listened to "Three Photographs" by Annie, on her latest "Steady Steady yes", I thought maybe she was singing about me, as I've taken several photo's of her, but dang no, it was not me. Oh, well maybe next CD. What can I say, she is of folk legend material, wait and see!

      Courage My Love (pcd38)

      I've heard several other people mention Annie Gallup's new album Courage My Love released by Prime CD. I don't remember what they said, except they liked it, really liked it, I can only second that emotion. I expected something wonderful, being familiar with her previous work, but this is beyond wonderful, it's a treasure. I feel like a little kid when I listen to Annie's story telling songs, I want more, I don't want to go to bed, I just want to listen all night. Her story telling and character insight are cleaver, amusing, and down right enjoyable.
