Erica Wheeler
Erica Wheeler began songwriting in the Maryland suburbs of Washington D.C. during her high school years. She began performing more seriously after her graduation from Massachusetts' Hampshire College, gravitating toward the famed Iron Horse Music Hall in nearby Northampton. The club management was encouraging and began to offer her opening slots for touring national acts. After performing locally for a short while Erica released a solo cassette entitled Strong Heart in December 1989 which garnered high praise.
In December 1992 she took a major leap forward with the release of her debut CD,
From That Far . To create the CD she used award winning producer Darleen Wilson
and featured some of the Northeast's finest session players including Johnny
Cunningham on fiddle and Doug Plavin on percussion. The album won a spot on
several "Best Of 1993" press and radio lists. Along the way she's played folk's most
respected listening rooms and festivals and opened shows for many of her heros
including Indigo Girls, Shawn Colvin and Iris Dement.
With The Harvest Erica Wheeler is ready for national stardom. Produced by Grammy nominated bluegrass artist Laurie Lewis, The Harvest masterfully draws from contemporary bluegrass influences and modern folk with memorable instrumental touches underscoring the subtle power of Wheeler's writing. The band is an all-star ensemble including most of the genre-busting bands Psychograss and Montreux. Contributors include Darol Anger, Mike Marshall, Barbara Higbie, Todd Phillips and Tom Rozum. With The Harvest Erica Wheeler has made her mark - its no wonder her strong underground reputation is currently growing by leaps and bounds!
The Harvest
Not everyone can turn their impressions into three-minute works of art that can
resonate with compelling truths. Erica Wheeler is one of the rare few who can. The
Harvest is a work that should instantly propel Wheeler in to the front ranks of
contemporary, new folk.

Kate McDonnell
Don't Get Me Started," McDonnell's third and best release, is certain to be a singer-songwriter highlight of 2001. To call it a divorce album would miss the point. There's an urgent sense of transformation, and the nerve to meet it head-on, that give this recording a bracing, epic quality. No one else in the genre abandons themselves to their songs in quite this way. Kate McDonnell sings as if her life depends on it - and maybe it does. The title track begins in fury and recrimination, and ends in a reconnection with the basic elements of life, and that describes the arc of this recording. "Gone" holds some of McDonnell's most mysterious lyrics - "everyone takes what life gives / everybody dies but not everybody lives." "Sticky Buns," long a bluesy, sexy, humorous show-stopper, at last appears on CD. Eleven songs, including one traditional ("Banks Of The Ohio") and one cover ("Will You Be Leaving", by John Pennell). Produced by Scott Petito. Every track here feels grounded in truth, and necessary to the whole picture. 5 stars. This is great.
-Andrew CalhounKate McDonnell is an engaging, inventive, authentic, charismatic performer with a voice that will bowl you over with its beauty and power. On top of that, she makes me howl with laughter. Her songwriting and guitar style are exquisite."

"Kate McDonnell is not only writing great songs, she's yanking down those pull offs, nailing those hammer ons and chasing those guitar runs to beat the band"
---Patty Larkin
"While her voice is lovely and the production...first rate, it's the quality of the songs which highlight this release. McDonnell is equally at home in blues and country folk settings. Her lyrics penetrate deep into the emotions of pain, loss, and emptyness but also reflect a sense of perseverence."

---Performing Songwriter TOP 12 D.I.Y. Review
"Her voice alone will stop you in your tracks. Kym Tuvim's music is sensual, sophisticated and wildly subtle. A fantastic debut album by one of Seattle's hottest new artists."

"It would be a big mistake not to play this album!"
Kelly Wright, KMTT-FM {AAA} Seattle, WA
"Gifted both as a performer and writer, Kym Tuvim's voice packs an emotional wallup that is missing from all too many folks I listen to."
---Jim Graves, WFSS-FM, Public Radio For The Carolina SandhillsKym Tuvim has captured audiences with her resonant voice and rich songwriting style since her first performance in 1994. With the 1995 release of her simple home-recording, 'When Allegra,' Victory Music described her songs as "soulful and...meaningful storytelling," predicting: "this will not be her only recording for long".
Within a few years, Kym has followed up that prediction with a self-titled debut cd on Cake Records (Seattle, WA) featuring Michael Manring on bass (Michael Hedges, Patty Larkin, ]ohn Gorka) and Julie Wolf on accordion (Ani Difranco, Laura Love Band, Catie Curtis). She has also made her mark with performances including a Showcase of Emerging Songwriters at the 1996 Napa Valley Music Festival and opening slots for such artists as Peter Mulvey, Karen Pernick, and BOXSET.
In addition, Kym has joined up with fellow songwriters Evan Brubaker, Jim Farrand, Marjorie Richards and Kate Wolf on Cake Records, a cooperative record label founded by Brubaker in 1996. With the recent release of "Listening Cap," a ten-song cd sampler, the artists of Cake are promoting their current catalog of recordings, helping to bring attention to the rich and diverse regional talent of the Northwest.
